Former President Barack Obama’s stance on Israel and Palestine centers on advocating for a negotiated two-state solution while condemning terrorism and criticizing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He supports Israel's right to exist and defend itself but has consistently opposed Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank.

On March 3, 2024, while commemorating the 59th anniversary of "Bloody Sunday" in Selma, Alabama, then-Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a significant address calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Speaking at the Edmund Pettus Bridge, she used this historic civil rights venue to issue some of the Biden administration's strongest public criticisms of Israel's military campaign and its impact on Palestinian civilians

She stated that "too many innocent Palestinians have been killed" and cited "inhumane" conditions, including starvation among Gazans.

Harris declared "no excuses" for the Israeli government, demanding they increase aid flow, open new border crossings, and protect humanitarian workers.

During his first term (2017–2021), President Donald Trump pursued a pro-Israel policy, breaking with decades of US precedent by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital, moving the US embassy there, and brokering the Abraham Accords to normalize relations between Israel and several Arab nations. His administration cut funding to Palestinians and presented a 2020 "Peace to Prosperity" plan that was rejected by Palestinian leadership

Israel Prize: In a notable move, Netanyahu announced in late 2025 that Israel would award its prestigious "Israel Prize" to Donald Trump for his contributions to the country.

In her 2025 book 107 Days, Harris expressed regret over not publicly differentiating her position, noting she "pleaded" with Joe Biden to show more empathy to Palestinians and claiming she should have publicly criticized Benjamin Netanyahu’s execution of the war.

The Iran nuclear deal under President Obama was a landmark 2015 agreement between Iran and the P5+1 (the U.S., UK, France, China, Russia, plus Germany) designed to limit Iran's nuclear program in exchange for massive sanctions relief

Uranium Limits:

Iran agreed to reduce its enriched uranium stockpile by 98% (down to 300 kg) and limit enrichment levels to 3.67%, well below the 90% required for weapons-grade material.

Centrifuge Reduction: Iran dismantled two-thirds of its centrifuges, reducing the number of operating machines for 10 years.

Inspections: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was granted 24/7 access to monitor nuclear facilities and verify compliance.

  •  President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the deal in 2018, calling it one of the worst deals ever made, and reimposed heavy sanctions.

  • Iranian Response: In retaliation, Iran breached the agreement's limits, increasing its uranium enrichment to 60% and limiting inspector access.
