Gun Control
President Joe Biden signed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act on June 25, 2022, marking the first major federal gun safety legislation passed in nearly 30 years.
Implemented enhanced background checks for gun purchasers aged 18 to 21, allowing up to ten days to review juvenile and mental health records.
Closed the "boyfriend loophole" to ban individuals convicted of abuse against dating partners from purchasing or owning firearms.

These actions wiped out billions in debt and lowered monthly bills for millions of lower-income families.
The Biden/Harris administration forgives 5.8 billion in loans from 560,000 students who were defrauded at Corinthians college.

Latino net worth went up 47% between 2019 and 2022 and the Latino-white wealth gap was at its narrowest level in nearly 30 years.

Latino residents made gains in home ownership, labor participation and unemployment.

Racial Equality
Black labor force participation rose during the Biden term, at times exceeding 63% and surpassing the participation rate for white workers, which was a historic shift.
The rate of Black business ownership doubled between 2019 and 2023.
Promoted expanded Medicaid postpartum coverage from 60 days to 12 months across participating states to address Black maternal mortality disparities.
Reached the lowest Black unemployment rate on record and narrowed the gap between Black and White unemployment rates to historic lows.

Economy
During Joe Biden's first term (January 2021 – January 2025), the U.S. unemployment rate experienced a significant decline, falling from 6.3-6.4% when he took office to 4.0% by January 2025

Hispanic unemployment fell from 8.6% at the start of the administration to 5.5% as of August 2024

Immigration

Healthcare
Black women in the U.S. face a maternal mortality rate roughly 2.5 times higher than white women. A major risk period occurs after the traditional 60-day Medicaid cutoff, when many new mothers lose health insurance. The crisis disproportionately affects women of color and underserved rural communities
The Biden-Harris administration targeted Black maternal mortality by allowing states to extend postpartum Medicaid coverage from 60 days to 12 full months.
The vast majority of states and territories have adopted this 12-month extension option, significantly lowering the risk of uninsurance and postpartum hospitalizations for marginalized mothers.
Utilized targeted Spanish-language outreach and navigator programs to boost enrollment in underserved communities.
Latino marketplace enrollment grew significantly as the uninsurance rate among Hispanic Americans dropped to a historic low of 18%.
Criminal Justice
Under the Biden administration, the Justice Department aggressively used consent decrees to push changes at police forces found to engage in a consistent pattern of abuse.
A consent decree is a court-ordered agreement between law enforcement and the Department of Justice to correct systemic misconduct in police departments.
The Biden administration (2021–2025) utilized federal consent decrees and opened 12 investigations, including cases in Minneapolis and Springfield. These court-enforceable settlements mandated police reform.
President Biden signed an executive order on police reform on the second anniversary of George Floyd's murder.
The order banned federal law enforcement from using chokeholds and restricted no-knock warrants. It also created a national law enforcement accountability database.
Biden signed an executive order which had eliminated Justice Department contracts with for-profit, privately operated criminal detention facilities.
Ecenomic Equality
President Biden signed an executive order that raised the minimum wage to $15/hour for employees working on or in connection with federal contracts starting January 30, 2022. This rate was indexed to inflation, reaching $17.20 in 2024 and $17.75 by January 1, 2025.
President Biden’s actions to address poverty focused on pandemic relief, most notably the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan (2021), which temporarily cut child poverty in half by roughly 40%–50%.
Enhanced unemployment benefits and increased Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits were extended to support families.
Black child poverty was halved in 2021 due to these measures, and the official Black poverty rate reached a record low of 17.1% in 2022.
These measures helped lift an estimated 1.2 million Hispanic children out of poverty in 2021.
