Marie is a founding member of the legendary Reckoning Crew. Known as "The Reckoning Crew", the group of three dozen prominently black female activists, includes current and former elected officials, activists, and faith leaders and has played a critical role in grassroots organizing in South Carolina for nearly 40 years.The reckoning crew supported then Senator Kamala Harris in the 2019 presidential primary. They backed then Vice President Joe Biden. The support from the reckoning crew helped Joe Biden sweep the 2020 South Carolina Democratic primary by winning all 46 counties in the state.The group is founded by legendary activist, Bernice Scott who became the first black chair of the Richland County Council. The name “Reckoning Crew” reflects their commitment to holding politicians accountable: “Because if you don’t do what’s right by the people, you have to reckon with us,” Scott explained
